Mission, Vision and Committment
Mission
SRG’s mission is to ensure America’s local public media institutions better serve their communities and thrive during a period of radical change.
SRG fulfills this mission in four ways.
SRG develops strategies that enable local public radio stations and joint licensees to successfully navigate the transition from their traditional broadcast services to become multi-platform community media institutions.
SRG assists its Member institutions in developing and implementing these strategies by providing critical information and analyses to its Member institutions.
SRG advocates for its Members’ interests regarding legislation, regulation, and their relations with relevant networks, vendors, and funders.
SRG convenes its Members—both virtually and in person—to share information, to promote the rapid adoption of best practices, and to provide mutual support for their efforts to improve the quality of civic, cultural, and artistic life in their service communities.
Public Service Vision
SRG's work is based on a shared public service vision that cuts across our different organizations and informs all that we do. We believe this vision both anchors current efforts and guides our explorations of new strategies, new technologies, and new services. It has meaning as a framework for local action. It is the foundation for SRG's national agenda.
Commitment
SRG is committed to advancing its Members' response to these imperatives, driving a transformation in local service in a time of radical and continuing change. SRG will:
Inform, inspire, and support the public media leaders who are making this transformation real—providing thought leadership, catalyzing action, and strengthening local public service;
Organize and coordinate collaborative efforts that achieve scale, attract resources, and develop expertise beyond the reach of any single organization; and
Represent Members' collective interests with networks, funders, and vendors.
